We know a good game when we see one. But we can’t help but think that many have missed out on or passed on a Wii game with a title like de Blob. So we originally guessed that this game would join the ranks of many other great titles that sell poorly and never get the praise and purchases that they deserve. It seems that de Blob did pretty well, though.
THQ says that their paint-slinging game sold over 700,000 copies at retail. And that’s what we like to hear: original IPs doing well, even in this crap economy. Good for them. And they hint at a “very focused … niche” new title coming. And there are DSi titles coming, too. Woo!
What’s funny is that they consider Nintendo their competition:
“The competition on the Wii right now is from Nintendo. That’s what we’ve got to attack,” THQ CEO Brian Farrell said. “The people who buy Nintendo games, [we want to] get them to buy things like de Blob.”
We wish THQ luck, especially seeing as how they have a 50 percent chance of going bankrupt.
