Pachter: Xbox 360 outsold PS3 by 2:1 in US

Industry analyst Michael “Stinkerbell” Pachter has made one of his fantastical predictions, claiming that the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 by a ratio of 2:I in North America. He believes the upcoming sales figures for December will make him right.

The love machine states that Wii sold 2.6 million units, down 33% from last year, that the PS3 sold 1.2 million, down 12%, and that the 360 sold 2.5 million, up 91%. It will be up to Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo whether or not we’ll know how right Pachter is, as the NPD now leaves it up to platform holders to release sales data.

The holiday period is, obviously, a huge battleground in the console wars, and with the release of Move and Kinect, people have been eager to see how well the systems performed. Sony has refused to release sales figures for Move, which leads one to reasonably assume it didn’t do all that well, while Microsoft has boasted of 8 million Kinect sales in its first 60 days.

With that prior knowledge, Pachter might not be too far off the mark.
