Overwatch’s Sigma has an intense origin story

Hero 31 is playable on the PTR, here are his abilities

After a few teases, Blizzard has officially introduced Sigma, the next tank hero lined up for Overwatch.

Even if you aren’t in the habit of watching these origin story videos, this one is worth a look. It’s genuinely unnerving! Blizzard describes it as a “peek inside the mind of an eccentric astrophysicist who hopes to unlock the secrets of the universe, unaware he’s been turning into a living weapon.”

There’s a brief clip of Sigma’s big-shouldered in-game model at the end, though it’s unclear how exactly he’ll harness gravity in combat. I’m intrigued – and I can’t wait to hear his banter with Moira.

Update: Blizzard has released Sigma on the Overwatch PTR, and folks, the guy goes barefoot. Things are about to get even wilder in the fan-art community. As for his playstyle, here are Sigma’s abilities:

  • Hyper Spheres
Sigma launches two gravitic charges, which implode after a short duration, dealing significant damage in an area.
  • Experimental Barrier
Sigma propels a floating barrier to a location of his choosing. He can recall the barrier at any time.
  • Kinetic Grasp
Sigma stops incoming projectiles in midair, converting them into shields.
  • Accretion
Sigma gathers a mass of debris and flings it at an enemy to knock them down.
  • Gravitic Flux (Ultimate)
Sigma manipulates gravity to lift nearby enemies into the air and slam them back down.

Sigma likely won’t be available on PS4 and Xbox One until mid-August.
