Overwatch’s free weekend is live on consoles

It lasts until September 12 at 4:00pm Pacific

Blizzard has opened up Overwatch on consoles for the weekend.

If you’re on Xbox One (with an Xbox Live Gold subscription) or PlayStation 4, you can play the team-based shooter at no extra cost. And, well, you should! Even if you’re the type who doesn’t typically get into FPS multiplayer. It’s worth trying in the same way Splatoon was worth trying.

All of the progress you earn in-game until the promo ends on Monday, September 12 at 4:00pm Pacific will carry over to the full version of Overwatch, should you like it enough to buy it. And speaking of, Blizzard and participating retailers are discounting the game to $50 on all platforms until September 15.

With this influx of new players, I’m planning to stay out of casual matches this weekend and stick to competitive play. I’ve not even had a chance to start Season 2 yet, so I’m extra curious to see the match format changes in action. How have you fared so far? Any better than the first season?
