Overlord II devs on DLC and screaming mothers

I’ve been playing Overlord II all weekend and loving it, despite a number of issues. That’s why I’m all for some extra content, which Triumph Studios is planning to announce in the near future. When asked about any future DLC for Overlord II, creative director Lennart Sas was revealed that it is currently being worked on.

“We’re actually working on that now and it’ll be announced soon,” confirmed Sas. He refused to give any comment as to what the content actually is, or whether “working on that,” means, “it’s been ready for weeks and we’re just holding onto it.”

More interestingly, however, is the story Sas shared on one angry parent who apparently tried to stop Overlord II‘s release in the studio’s home country of the Netherlands: “Some woman called us out of the blue last week and told us that her 12-year old boy had come home with a free brochure, which is distributed across the Netherlands in all game stores, toy stores and what not. So, he’s 12-years old, which is old enough to buy the game and she read what it was about.

“She called us and said, ‘I’m going to stop this game from being released! I’ve already called the major retailers and we’re going to ban it! You’re despicable. You should use your talents for something else…’ and blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.”

Sas points out of course that Overlord games sound worse on paper when you don’t have the cartoon-like context of the game. Still, with seal clubbing and mass murder as part of Overlord II‘s features, it’s surprising that it’s never been more of a controversial title. Just goes to show what a comical visual style lets you get away with.
