Original Star Fox creator won’t do sequel, jabs at Miyamoto

Sad news for Star Fox fans — in an interview with G4, the original creator of Star Fox, Dylan Cuthbert, says that he’s not interested in making a new Star Fox game for at least 10 years. The reason he gives is that it would be too big of a project and would require a huge staff, and it’s just not something that his company Q-Games really wants to do.

What’s far more interesting about the interview is what he has to say about Miyamoto and Nintendo. When asked why developers seemed to have trouble with Star Fox when Fox actually had to run around, he pretty much says that’s not how the game is supposed to be and not want core gamers want, but Miyamoto forced the point and that whatever Miyamoto wants, Miyamoto gets. He also calls the Wii a ‘toy’, and insinuates that part of the reason Star Fox is successful is because it attracts furries. I’m guessing that his reluctance to make the game has a lot less to do with ‘time’, and a lot more to do with Nintendo…

It’s fairly short, but I recommend reading the full interview here at G4. It’s too bad he’s not going to be working on any more sequels, since as G4 points out the really good ones are usually the ones he has involvement with. If you REALLY love Star Fox though, at least you know that Nintendo will get someone else to make it.

(Also, unrelated, craziness at work means Fanboy Friday is going to be Fanboy Saturday or Fanboy Sunday this week. Sorry!)
