Origin recently opened up pre-orders for Star Wars: The Old Republic on its proprietary digital service Origin. Well … that’s what you might think at first glance. What’s actually happening is that it’s opened up pre-orders for pre-orders, and can’t guarantee you’ll get what you want to reserve.

The main bone of contention seems to be with the Collector’s Edition, which is being used as a pre-order incentive on Origin. Unfortunately, those who do pre-order through Origin may not receive the thing, and are instead being put in a queue for a chance to get it. Naturally, some customers are wondering why they have to do this, especially on EA’s proprietary service.

It’s possible EA is trying to really make the “Limited” part of “Limited Edition” mean something, but you’d think that limiting it to pre-orders would do the trick.

An image is circulating online with a suitably sarcastic summary of events: “I’m waiting in a DIGITAL line to MAYBE pay to receive a PRE-ORDER of a DIGITAL product.”

We tried getting an official comment from Electronic Arts on the subject, but it had nothing to say at this time.
