Once Human iron ore location and how to find more

Can't get enough iron...

Iron ore is one of Once Human’s most essential resources due to its relevance through crafting tiers. Depending on where you started your base, Iron Ore can be rather difficult to find, but there is a method you can use no matter your location.

How to get Iron Ore in Once Human

If you’re playing Once Human normally, you’ll find yourself quickly swimming in both Copper and Tin, but Iron Ore will be an elusive resource for you unless you get out of that starter comfort zone. That is to say, generally, you can find Iron Ore in the northern portions of the map, in the wilderness areas surrounding Greywater Camp.

The whole area shown here is filled with scattered Iron Ore nodes.

You’re looking for a rock that looks very similar to Tin, with the key difference being the brown tint present upon it. This brown tint is the Iron you’re searching for. However, just finding the resource is not enough. You’re going to need the right tool to even begin mining it. To mine the Iron Ore you find, make sure to craft a Bronze Pickaxe at your Supplies Workbench. If you don’t have the option to do so, ensure you have the recipe for it unlocked via the Memetics Menu.

The Copper Pickaxe recipe must be unlocked by selecting it in this menu.

Once you have a Bronze Pickaxe, be sure to drag it to your quick bar so that it is registered as your main tool. Now, all you need to do is walk up to any Iron Ore you find and Interact with it, just as you would with Copper or Tin.

How to Find Iron Ore in Once Human.

As just mentioned, Iron Ore can be found scattered around the Greywater Camp’s surrounding wilderness, but that is a rather imprecise method of locating the resource. If you want to precisely find Iron Ore without searching aimlessly, I recommend you build a Curiosity Catcher – II via your Supplies Workbench.

This highly efficient tool functions like a mini-radar that marks the location of Iron Ore nodes in your surrounding area. These marked locations are pinpoint, meaning the ore becomes easy to locate when you activate it. Just as with the Bronze Pickaxe, ensure you have the recipe unlocked in the Memetics Menu before attempting to build it.

Alternatively, you can also make use of the Digby Boy Deviant to help you obtain more Iron Ore. This Deviant’s entire purpose is to gather all types of ore it can find around your base. My Digby Boy was gathering Iron Ore in large amounts even before I found it on the map myself or could make use of it in my crafts.

The Digby Boy is a Deviant you obtain by following the main storyline, so you can’t miss getting this one like you can some others. Place Digby Boy in any Independent Secure Unit in your base, and make sure to keep it happy. Do so, and it will gather Iron Ore for you without any extra effort on your part.
