Omega Five and Tron on XBLA this Wednesday

Recommended Videos

We already knew that Omega Five (800 Microsoft Points) was coming to Live Arcade this week, but the deal has been sweetened: Tron (400 Microsoft Points) will also be released on Wednesday.

The side-scrolling shmup Omega Five makes me wish that more original games were available on XBLA, rather than rehash after rehash. It has refreshing visuals, multiple characters, and best of all, an old-school mode that is extremely unforgiving in the health department (think Ghosts ‘N Goblins). The one thing this game doesn’t have going for it is co-op, as it’s offline only.

Tron has been ported to XBLA, with a few new additions. First off, 2-player co-op and versus modes have been included (splitscreen and online), something that didn’t exist in the original arcade version of the game. Besides that, the audio for Tron has been improved to “CD-quality sound.” Bleeps and bloops never sounded so amazing!

Omega Five is satisfying enough for me. How about the rest of you?
