Oh, so this is how you make House of the Dead: Overkill

I think it would be a stretch to say I’m “cautiously optimistic” about House of the Dead: Overkill for the Wii. When reports were floating around that a Swedish magazine gave the game a relatively abysmal three out of ten, I didn’t think that was due to a printer-smudged “eight.” Mediocrity doesn’t seem unlikely.

But I haven’t played it yet — that will have to wait until next week at New York Comic Con — so I’ll withhold my final judgment. Still, I must admit that it’s kind of hard not to be excited about this game, a tongue-in-cheek homage to the grindhouse horror flicks and B-movie schlock that I grew up with.

In this first of what I’m sure will be a few behind-the-scenes docs, the guys at Headstrong Games definitely seem like they “get it.” And if Overkill doesn’t take itself too seriously, neither will I. I’m just looking to kick back, shoot a few zombies in the face, and have a good time. That’s not too much to ask, really. And I’m hoping that maybe it was a smudged eight. Because that, you know, happens. Really.
