In case you hadn’t heard, NES Remix hit the Wii U for $15 after a surprise announcement during a recent Nintendo Direct. While it could have been a whole lot more interesting, retro enthusiasts alike have been enjoying it — myself included!

To help promote the game a special contest was being held worldwide to see how quickly you could complete a specific stage. Sadly, the director of the game has confirmed that an unspecified amount of people have exploited the challenge through an unconfirmed method, so it’s been entirely canceled.

After doing some digging, it appears as if the exploit involves constantly pausing the game to cheat the clock. Well, that’s a shame.
