In Octopath Traveler 0, you won’t be limited to a handful of skills. You can learn plenty of other skills outside of your starting list—but that’s only if you can find and equip the Mastery for them.

Most Masteries are tough to acquire. Many are guarded by Elite Enemies, while others must be purchased for exuberant sums, fought for from NPCs, or found hidden around the map. Occasionally, you might see one pop up in Ludo’s store in Wishvale if you’re lucky (and if you’ve unlocked several Trade Lists). When you’ve unlocked all of a companion’s skills, you can also spend JP to unlock the Mastery for that skill to then equip it on another character.
If you’re looking for a specific Mastery, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve put together a list of all the Masteries in Octopath Traveler 0, both active attacks and supporting ones. Some of these Masteries can appear in more than one place, and we’ve included only locations we were able to confirm for ourselves.

All Battle Masteries
Battle Masteries, as their name might suggest, can be used in combat just like any regular old skill. Many of these Masteries can be acquired once you’ve unlocked all of your companions’ skills, while others are found in NPC inventories or in Blue Chests. All Support Masteries
Unlike Battle Masteries, Support Masteries are passive effects, such as ones that grant you a chance to counter attacks or restore HP at the end of a battle. While you can have three Battle Masteries equipped, you get only two Support Masteries at a time.

How to equip and use Masteries
Equipping Masteries is as simple as learning your character’s innate abilities. To equip a Mastery in Octopath Traveler 0, open the menu, then scroll down to the “Skills” option. Choose the first option that pops up, “Equip Skills.” This will then open a screen that shows your companions‘ equipped Masteries, separated by Action Skills, or Battle Masteries, and Support Skills.
You won’t start with all of the slots unlocked. Each of your companions starts out with one Battle Mastery slot. You’ll need to spend JP, which can be earned through successful combat encounters or at the Training Ground in Wishvale, to unlock either another Battle Mastery slot or a Support Mastery slot. Characters can have up to three Battle Masteries and two Support Masteries.
I recommend choosing Masteries that fill damage types your active team is missing. I lacked Light damage in my lineup, for example, so I chose to put Luminescence on Alexia, my strongest Special Attacker. This covered all my elemental bases with both her and Pius on my team, and I was able to have a companion who could deal damage to every weak point I might come across in my travels around Orsterra.
