Nordic comes away with Red Faction, Darksiders, and more

Remaining THQ assets have been auctioned off

Rounding out the sale of THQ’s assets, we heard earlier today that Gearbox was able to pick up the rights to Homeworld. Subject to court approval, the remaining groups of intellectual properties have gone to three different companies, as announced by the defunct publisher today.

For $4.9 million, Nordic Games bought some 150 individual SKUs including notable properties like Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, and Destroy All Humans! Additionally, Drawn to Life and its successor The Next Chapter went to 505 Games for $300,000. For its part, Gearbox bid $1.35 million to get Homeworld.

“In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles,” said Nordic Games Group AB CEO Lars Wingefors. “A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs.”

Can’t say I saw this coming. If you aren’t familiar with Nordic, you might be when you hear that it has published titles such as The Book of Unwritten Tales, the PC version of Alan Wake, and Painkiller HD. It’s expected that the Bankruptcy Court will finalize the sale after May 13, 2013.
