Noct joins Devolver’s ever-expanding roster of amazing indie games

c3sk’s top-down shooter is in good company

Chris “c3sk” Eskins is an independent developer with a vision. To be more specific, Chris’ vision is a high-contrast thermal camera’s point of view, looking down from the sky on a darkness-enshrouded, eldritch horror-filled world.

Eskins isn’t alone in this particular vision. Devolver Digital, publisher, and at times, indie games’ bellwether, also shares an appreciation for the bleak, ruined world of Noct. In a surprise reveal posted by the publisher’s Twitter account it was announced that the game would be joining the ranks of respected indie titles such as Hotline Miami, Early Access title Broforce, and most recently, Croteam’s philosophical puzzler The Talos Principle.

We reached out to the publisher for comment on the recent announcement and Devolver spokesperson Nigel Lowrie was kind enough to get back to us with this to say: “We’re super hyped to be working with Chris on Noct and can’t wait to share more about the game and his vision.”

Eskins also responded for comment when asked for his perspective on the enviable publishing arrangement. “These are some of the guys responsible for inspiring me to create Noct,” he said, before noting that working with them has been “a dream come true.”

Devolver’s almost uncanny knack for discovering and promoting innovative gameplay experiences coupled with Chris’ unique vision for how a top-down, minimalist, survival horror/shooter can look and feel in 2015 seems like a match made in heaven.

Noct is planned for PC, Mac, and Linux and is due to enter Steam Early Access early in 2015.
