No, this Spy Hunter movie won’t die

Cue Henry Mancini’s theme to Peter Gunn. Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. is looking to make a Spy Hunter film.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Midway had been in talks with Universal Pictures to make the film since 2003 (and that’s not a typo). In its many years in development hell, the flick had everyone from John Wo to Paul W.S. Anderson to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attached.

Warner now owns the rights to most of Midway’s assets, including Mortal Kombat, Joust, and Spy Hunter. The Spy Hunter film will have Chad St. John writing the screenplay, with no directors or actors currently attached to the project.

I’d like to take the time to point out that if Warner Bros. is following through with a film, you know what that means, right? Yup — another Spy Hunter game. I’ll be sitting here patiently waiting for that announcement.
