Nintendo’s Mario Trump playing cards are hot

Nintendo actually got their start back in the late 1800s as a playing card company, being a source for Japanese hanafuda cards. Knowing that, it’s neat to see them get back to basics with this new set of cards. These are called Mario Trump play cards, and they’re going to be released in Japan this July. Coming in three different types, these cards will retail for 1,050 yen (about $10) a set.

There’s retro ones with a 8-bit art on front and back (my favorite, named “Dot”), some classic-looking ones with more cartoony-art (“Standard”), and a stylish set with rendered art (“Neon”). I want all three!

Nintendo has opened a Japanese teaser page for the card collections. Now poker night is going to be that much more nerdy.
