Nintendogs blamed for vicious dog attack

Videogames have often been accused of inspiring children to rape, rob and murder, but I think this is the first time a game’s been blamed for making a dog turn violent. A nine-year-old girl has had part of her lip torn off by a crazed canine, and the girl’s grandmother lays the blame at Nintendogs‘ feet. Somehow, this is not a joke.

Megan Walker has turned on her DS to play Nintendogs, but when the virtual dog barked, her friend’s bull-mastiff responded to the sound by attacking her. The dog, named Sacacen, dragged Megan from the couch by her foot, then bit at her face, taking off part of her top lip. Fortunately, the lip was re-attached, but Megan’s grandmother is furious.

“I think this game should carry some kind of warning,” she seriously said. “People should be told not to play it when there are dogs in the room.  I blame the game for what happened to Megan. If they hadn’t been playing it I don’t think the dog would have gone for her.”

It’s so easy to tear that comment apart and call the grandmother a stupid bitch, but why should I bother? Just understand that we now live in a world where a videogame has been blamed for making a dog attack a girl … and weep for what’s left of humanity.
