Nintendo sued again over Wii motion, failure could equal removal

Again, here’s someone claiming to have made motion sensing techology first. This time it’s Hillcrest, a company who has licensed their motion-detecting technology to other electronic companies in the past. Their patented tech let users select items on a screen by moving a handheld device. Sounds like a Wii Remote, doesn’t it?

Nintendo does not think so, of course. “Nintendo intends to vigorously defend this action,” it said in a statement.

The whole thing is big enough to be placed in the hands of the US International Trade Commission, who actually has the power to bar the Wii from being sold in the US. Nintendo will have to show that they did not infringe on the four patents that Hillcrest says they have. Somehow we’re not so worried about Nintendo.
