Nintendo reveals Xenoblade Chronicles X multiplayer details and more

The spiritual sequel to a spiritual successor of a spiritual succesor

I’ll be the first one to admit how confused I am as to the connection between Xenogears, the Xenosaga series, and Xenoblade Chronicles other than director Tetsuya Takahashi. Especially given that Xenoblade Chronicles X is a “spiritual sequel” to the first game in the series.

Thinking about Xenogears alone is enough to make my head spin, especially after reading Perfect Works. But hey, they’re great games, so I guess it doesn’t matter!

Through translation by Twitter user Cheesemeister, we were able to discern the following information. The role-playing game takes place on the planet Mira, and features five continents: Forgotten Canyon, Luminous Forest, White Tree Continent, Primal Wilderness, and Black Steel Continent. The city of New Los Angeles will serve as a hub and one of the above videos takes a closer look at how you’ll interact with it.

The footage also showcases the navigation system, and various modes of transport you’ll use throughout the world of Mira.

The official Xenoblade Chronicles X website has also been updated, and the game is getting a Wii U bundle in Japan, which includes the following for 35,000 yen ($293.71):

  • Black 32GB Wii U
  • Matching Wii U GamePad
  • A retail copy of Xenoblades Chronicles X
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X art book
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X special card (???)
  • A 1,000 yen ($8.39) prepaid card with an original design

There has been no word as of yet if North America or Europe will receive a similar bundle.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is shaping up to be an excellent JPRG, and figures to be a stellar edition to the Wii U’s library, particularly since the console has been somewhat lacking in the genre.

It’s slated to release on April 29 in Japan, and later this year across North America and Europe.
