Nintendo ‘not good’ at making games like BioShock

If there’s one thing Nintendo is good at, it’s making overtly humble statements to make it look like it’s got the common touch. Enter Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, claiming that his company relies on third parties to fill gaps in its own development.

“The fact of the matter is we know we create great content for younger consumers, we know we’ve got great content for more casual players, and we want fantastic content for that more active player who loves Metroid or Zelda but maybe also wants something like a BioShock 2 to play as well,” claims Reggie. “And we also recognise that we don’t create that type of content ourselves. We’re not good at it and it’s not a key focus area. So we want that content on our platform, so we have to court third-party developers and encourage them to make [those games], but it also has to be financially viable for them as well.”

It’s just a shame that most third parties only saw the Wii as a means to exploit idiots and made puerile crap for the system instead of games like BioShock 2. It would help if the damn Wii user base would buy some of the better games out there, too.
