Reggie Fils-Aime, the man with meatballs of steel, has stated that Nintendo’s ultimate goal is to capture all of us, and hardcore shooter fans are up next on the list of souls he wishes to claim. With The Conduit and Dead Space: Extraction, the pork flavored president believes that the “core” gamer is his for the taking.
“We have near-term, mid-term and long-term opportunities,” he claims. “The near-term opportunity is the consumer who owns a PlayStation 3 or an Xbox 360 and has been bad-mouthing Wii to their friends. We can reach that consumer with games like The Conduit or Tiger Woods with Wii Motion Plus.”
Reggie’s mid-term goal is to get the more mainstream consumer who “just needs a little extra incentive” to get a Wii, something he believes he can do with Motion Plus and New Super Mario Bros. The long-term goal is to seize the hearts of those who don’t play, and have zero interest in videogames.
“We think we win over the Halo audience with something like The Conduit, a multiplayer, online, shooting experience, or Dead Space Extraction,” he adds. “And you know what? Once those people buy into Wii, they’ll go buy Mario Kart or Wii Fit Plus.”
I’ll pass, thanks.
