Nintendo fixes Metroid: Other M glitch via postal service

There is, apparently, a game-breaking glitch in Metroid: Other M which is preventing some players from progressing in the game. Collecting the ice beam, progressing to the next room, killing the enemies there to open a new door and then turning back and re-entering the ice beam chamber causes the path forward to be closed forever, which has to suck.

The problem is easily avoided by simply progressing one room further but, if you unwittingly fell into this devious trap, fear not. Nintendo totally has your back. All you have to do is mail them your Metroid: Other M save file and they’ll send it back with the glitch repaired. No, I don’t mean send it to them through this mysterious void called the internet. Your save file is too important for that. Nintendo wants you to put it on an SD card, put it in an envelope and give it to a postal carrier for delivery. That’s how important your customer satisfaction is to them.

To be fair to Nintendo, their support page does list that there may be “other options.” So, I gave them a quick call to find out what those options might be. The very helpful support representative said that if sending an SD card wasn’t an option that I could ship them the Wii itself and that service would be expedited with a turnaround time of about 10 days.

Seriously. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s 2010. We’re almost ten percent of the way through the twenty-first century. By now, they should have some better system in place than this. I gave up long ago hoping that titles would ship without glitches that could completely ruin the experience of playing a game. And, to be fair, this is a pretty specific series of circumstances which have to be met. But they should be embarrassed to present this as a solution.
