Nintendo of America’s sales and marketing boss Cammie “That Woman” Dunaway has expressed her disappointment in Nintendo’s E3 performance. You might remember it — it’s the one where Reggie insists that Animal Crossing is a game we should all blow our load over and a man is invited on stage to have a seizure in front of an imaginary drum kit that plays itself. No idea why they’d show remorse for that little exhibition.

“I would say the message is we were disappointed with our performance at E3,” stated That Woman. “There were titles like Wario which we think will be really fun titles that we should have showcased.

“We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that Pikmin is coming. It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo.”

Yes, you should have showed Wario during the press conference, and it would have been nice to announce Pikmin on stage, but it didn’t happen. I think the problem recently lies with developers and publishers being terrified of scaring off these “new” gamers, like they’re coaxing out a rare bird that’ll fly away the second someone moves too quickly. What I see from NoA is all the good stuff being hidden away, shunted into a dark corner like a shameful secret that only the old school Nintendo loyalists know about. Have some damn pride in your best work and give it some of the spotlight next time, Nintendo.
