Nintendo 30th anniversary CD is perfect stocking stuffer

Classic Famicom-era soundtracks across two discs

Nintendo has released their Famicom-era soundtracks in a variety of ways over the years, but it’s been quite some time since anything has been available in print. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of some of their earliest titles, however, Nippon Columbia is putting out a two-disc Blu-spec CD containing music from Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Dr. Mario, and tons more.

It was just released today in Japan, and I say it’s a great stocking stuffer because it’s priced reasonably well by Japanese standards. CD Japan is selling it for about 2,200 Yen ($22), which may sound steep, but is a bargain if you regularly buy Japanese CDs.

I’ve been listening to this all day, which says a lot given how adamant I am about listening to Christmas music this time of year!

Got anyone on your Christmas shopping list that could go for some classic Nintendo music?
