Ninja metroidvania Kunai knows the importance of a good grappling hook

Releasing on Switch and PC in early 2020

Part of the joy of exploring an interconnected game world comes from having inherently enjoyable traversal options, and in the case of the upcoming Nintendo Switch and PC metroidvania game Kunai, I don’t think the ninja protagonist’s grappling hook is ever going to get old. You can swing around to your heart’s content, slash-bounce off the heads of your foes, and unload chunky dual SMGs to finish the kill.

The latest footage shows an airship ascent, a few other areas, and a boss fight.

Kunai is set in a “mostly” post-human world in which Tabby, a “robot infused with the soul of an ancient warrior,” seeks purpose. There’s an air of familiarity to the individual bits and pieces, but the overall setting and theme seem a tad more novel than the average hopeful indie metroidvania romp.

Since we last checked on Kunai, the game now has a release window: early 2020.
