This week sees the long awaited arrival of Square Enix’ NieR Replicant. For those of you who simply cannot wait those final few days, PlayStation Underground has your back, delivering 15 minutes of gameplay captured directly from the PS4 edition of the remaster. In addition, Publisher Square Enix has released a new “extra content” trailer just this morning, showcasing some of the cool new features being added to the updated edition of the action-RPG.

Narrated by PS Underground’s Tim and Kristen and accompanied by Square Enix’ Reid Taguchi, the video depicts the early exploits of protagonist Nier’s adventure. The young hero visits The Lost Shrine for the first time, solving puzzles, engaging in combat, and coming face-to-page with ornery sidekick Grimoire Weiss, who will accompany Nier on their quest. The preview winds up with an epic encounter with one of the shrine’s mighty guardians, as Nier and Weiss team-up for the first of many battles the duo will face together.

NieR Replicant will sport updated visuals, re-recorded voiceovers, and a rearranged soundtrack overseen by original composer Keiichi Okabe. As discussed in the video, combat has been optimized for the modern era, and should feel a little more relatable to those fans who joined the series with smash-hit sequel NieR: Automata. I readily admit to being a latecomer to this franchise, and thus am very much looking to checking out NieR Replicant in this modern, polished format. It’s looking very slick indeed.

NieR Replicant launches April 23 on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
