With the release of the PlayStation 4 just around the corner, there’s already quite a number of games to keep new owners busy ’til the next big release. Though if you’re looking for something a bit more comprehensive, then Sony and Warner Bros. Games’ port of their free-to-play MMO DC Universe Online will be sure to keep you entertained. And they’ve got quite a number of changes in mind for the next-gen release.

In a GamesBeat interview with senior creative director Jens Andersen, the developer elaborated on what it took to develop for the PS4, and what the incredibly massive update 31 entails. “Update 31 has two levels of graphical updates. On PS4, you’ll notice a big difference between it and the PC and PS3 versions,” said Andersen. “We’ve always had a limiter on what the PS3 could handle and had to make a few compromises at launch because of that. Exclusively on PS4, we’re taking all the assets and enhancing or ‘up-rezing’ them. PS4 players will definitely notice a difference.”

For the most part, Update 31 will see many tweaks for the game’s visuals, leveling system, and the overall architecture of the game. While Andersen assured fans that this is not a massive game-changing update that will alienate players, the changes will no doubt be noticeable for many. Specifically players on the PS4, which boasts a sizable upgrade in visuals. In addition to this, both the PS4 and PS3 releases of DCU Online will share servers — which will help to keep the community together.

A storm is coming, friends. And it looks like DC Universe Online is ready for it. But what about you? Are any soon to be owners of the PS4 looking to give this MMO a shot?
