Nex’s Nostalgia: Howard & Nester comics [Update!]

(Editor’s Note: The above video doesn’t really have much to do with the comic, but it IS from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, er, kind of. It comes courtesy of Overtime Comedy and it’s way funnier if you had seen the original show. — Nex)

The 80s were a decade ruled by The A-Team, The Chicago Bears and a new video game company from Japan called Nintendo. Along with having a system that undeniably dominated the home console space for most of the decade, Nintendo also branched out into other realms of marketing releasing everything from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show to Legend of Zelda cereal to Nintendo Power Magazine. The magazine was much better back then than it is now, as it used to be a celebration of Nintendo as opposed to the fanboy defensiveness of recent years.

Inside the pages of that hallowed magazine came a comic strip called Howard & Nester. Many people of my age will have fond memories of these comics, and even if you never bought Nintendo Power, upon seeing these, a flood of memories will come rushing back like a tidal wave of acid-wash jeans and Rick Springfield albums. Nintendo Power, and this comic, are some of my earliest memories of being a gamer, and I’d like to share that with you today.

You can find the entire Howard & Nester archive here.

[UPDATE: Since I was giving you guys all of the Howard & Nester comics, I did a bit more searching to bring you links to the entire archives of the other comics that ran in Nintendo Power as well; Super Mario Bros. Adventures, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. Enjoy!)
