Three DLC for $19.99

Et tu, Zelda? For the first time in series history, a mainline Zelda game is getting DLC: day-one bonuses along with two expansions coming in Summer and Holiday 2017. You can get all three together with the “Expansion Pass” which will cost US $19.99, £17.99, or €19.99.

The day one “expansion bonus” features “three new treasure chests” which includes “exclusive in-game clothing,” more specifically a shirt with the Nintendo Switch logo on it. Joy! The first expansion slated for the summer will add an additional Cave of Trials challenge, hard difficulty, and an “additional map feature.” The holiday pack will have a new story, dungeon, and challenges.

The new dungeon and story in the third seem cool, but I don’t know if I care about treasure chests and especially having to pay extra for a hard difficulty that should be in the base game. As it is in most games including the previous mainline title Skyward Sword, albeit needing to be unlocked by clearing the game once.

It’s not too expensive which is acceptable for whats being offered, but it seems season passes will continue to be a controversial subject, especially when announced prior to a game’s launch.
