Rondo of Blood hit the Virtual Console today, and it’s awesome. To have one of the most sought after and critically acclaimed 2D action/platformers ever made for a mere nine bucks seems too good to be true. That’s not an easy act to follow, but if there is any game that has a chance at outshining Rondo, it’s Cave Story.

The game hits WiiWare exactly one week from today, and I couldn’t be more excited. To get a brief idea of how the game looks (and sounds) check out the video above. Not only will you get a sense of what kind of improvements the game has seen since it’s freeware days (including Time Attack and Boss Rush modes), but you’ll also get a peek into the minds of Pixel (the game’s creator) and Nicalis (the man responsible for the WiiWare port). I especially like the bit where Pixel talks about how to change soap into a videogame character. These guys are clearly making games for the right reasons, and I love them for it.

In other Cave Story news, it looks like Quote wont be the only playable character this time around. These screens from Wiiz.fr show that Quote’s little robo-moe pal Curly Brace might be getting into the action solo, and not just as the occasional attack-assistant. Quite righteous indeed.

In case you missed it, we ranked Cave Story 23rd on our top 100 games of the last decade list. Yeah, it’s a good game alright, and these additions will only make it better. If you don’t buy this game, then aren’t you sort of a jackass?
