New trailer for Destiny 2: The Final Shape showcases environments inside the Traveler

Things are looking pretty bonkers inside The Traveler.

Destiny 2‘s The Final Shape expansion may not arrive until June 4, but Bungie dropped a new trailer showing where the new content will take players. The Journey into The Traveler trailer offers a haunting look into some of the locales Guardians can explore within The Traveler, narrated by Cayde-6. Alongside a peek at some of the expansion’s various biomes, the trailer hints at the forces supporting the new Dread enemy faction.

In August 2023, Bungie gave players their first look at The Final Shape. Unfortunately, the initial reveal proved underwhelming, lacking the features players expected. Thankfully, following up on the goodwill generated by streams and a content update, Bungie announced a surprise gameplay reveal for The Final Shape. That showcase introduced the new Prismatic Subclass and the new enemy faction, the Dread. The Journey into The Traveler trailer shows players what it’ll be like inside The Traveler.

A topsy-turvey playground of Light and Dark

Bungie has previously revealed that The Final Shape would take Guardians inside The Traveler, a locale known as its Pale Heart. This new destination is reflective of players’ journies, so the destination is an amalgam of various environments or points of interest from throughout the Destiny franchise. The Journey into The Traveler trailer highlights this, offering glimpses at the bizarre playground inbound alongside The Final Shape.

Nature is blooming in full force inside the Pale Heart of The Traveler. Grass and plant life climb up hilly terrain and the ruins of Destiny‘s past, but the environment is more complex than what’s seen on the surface. Occasionally, parallel and reflective versions of locales are shown as the camera pans. This is sometimes taken to the extreme, even showing Guardians racing along ceiling-bound paths or a forest flipped on its head.

While the inside of The Traveler is naturally brimming with Light and life, the recent incursion by The Witness has not gone unnoticed. Corrupting the serene vistas and biomes is a creeping sickness brought on by the architect of the Final Shape. Similar to what’s seen growing out of fallen servants of The Witness, thorny vines permeate the landscape, and pyramid structures have forced their way into the area.

The Witness has also brought its forces into The Traveler, and not just the Dread. The Journey into The Traveler trailer shows Hive duking it out against Guardians and even seemingly hinting that the constantly incompetent Alak-Hul will make an appearance. In addition to the Hive, various forms of the Dread are shown fighting in the Pale Heart, and even allies like Mithrax, Empress Caiatl, and Savathûn.

The Pale Heart of The Traveler is shaping up to be one of the wildest destinations Destiny has ever introduced. Players will be able to explore it firsthand on June 4, 2024.
