New Tomb Raider film to feature younger, realistic Lara

Word of a new Tomb Raider film – “a reboot, if you will” – has been floating around for awhile. In an interview with About.com at the Terminator: Salvation premiere, producer Dan Lin confirms the film is currently in the works.

“We’re rebooting Lara Croft,” he says. “It’s a great origin story that we’re gonna tell.”

He goes on to affirm that the film will still have action, but will focus on character, and will be “more realistic” than previous films.

Lin’s only comment on casting is that nothing has been decided, but a since the film is an origin story, they’re looking to pick up a younger Lara Croft. Because Angeline Jolie is positively ancient; have you seen her lately? Even Brad is like, totally done with her. Rumors have put Megan Fox in the role of Lara Croft for the new film, which was immediately praised by our own Hamza Aziz as the “greatest idea to come out of Hollywood since Citizen Kane.”

“For me, the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action oriented,” Lin adds. “I wanted to have action, but with character.”

While we’re on the subject of Tomb Raider, what’s the deal with everyone calling the movies and the game “Lara Croft”? I mean, the name of the series is “Tomb Raider,” right? Lara Croft is the character. This isn’t brain surgery.
