I was expecting most things relating to the sequel to Sega’s Dreamcast pet simulator to be pretty weird, but after watching this Japanese gameplay overview, I’m less dazed and confused and more disturbed and utterly confounded. For a start, the whole thing is narrated by a hideous mutation of the original game’s fish-man character, who’s head now appears to be grafted onto a bird of some kind. Yes Sega, of course…

Not speaking a word of Japanese that I didn’t inadvertently pick up from Shenmue 2, it’s tricky for me to properly relate exactly what’s going on in this video, but it seems to give a brief demo of the new expansive desert island environment in which the game’s caveman character dwells, as well as a quick look at some of the game’s features.

The environment looks to play a bigger role this time, with some weather effects shown off and possibly some player-controlled destruction going on too. There’s also a look at what appears to be an item creation system, the ability to breed offspring, and of course the dubiously-shaped voice recognition technology that the game uses to interact with its protagonist as he leaps around, slapping his thighs in his dubiously-small undergarments. Other than that, your guess is currently as good as mine. It certainly looks intriguing though, does it not?
