New screenshots for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Take down the forces of Sauron in this new open-world title

Last month, we saw the reveal of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, a new open-world action/RPG set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. While we didn’t get a look of the game, we did learn what to expect of the new open-ended gameplay and the Nemesis system, which can all allow players to shape the course of the events in Mordor and turn normal enemies into potential rivals. Now, the folks at Warner Bros. Games have released a small set of screenshots to show off the new title.

Taking place during a fairly open gap within Tolkien’s lore, the developers at Monolith have taken some liberties and risks with the material to tell their own unique story. Players will step into the role of Talion, a resurrected human Ranger who acquires the abilities of a wraith, and goes on a quest to stop of the forces of Sauron as they attempt to overtake the lands of Middle-earth.

While this new title will likely irk some hardcore Tolkien fans, it’s certainly got a number of neat ideas going for it. Plus, I’ve always wanted an open-world action/RPG set within Middle-earth. And no, the MMO doesn’t count. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of Shadow of Mordor.
