Palworld 1.0 is now out, and there are plenty of changes to expect in the full version. Some highlights include new locations, Pals, NPCs, quests, and more. The first major question arises when you start playing the update: should you use the old save or start a new one?

While developers Pocketpair has advised everyone to start a new one, there are pros and cons behind both.

Palworld 1.0, like its early access version, isn’t a competitive title. You can enjoy it alone or with friends in a shared world. However, you can enjoy the experience at your own pace. There’s no rush, and with 1.0 now out, I won’t be expecting a major update anytime soon.

Hence, starting a new save won’t really ruin any experience. The storyline has been now updated, and progression will feel much more streamlined compared to what we experienced in the past. This should theoretically result in quicker progression, although you can now go up to level 80 (it was level 65 earlier).

Plenty of gameplay changes are also at place in the full version. If you really don’t mind waiting for the endgame for a couple of weeks and working all the way up once again, starting a new save is highly beneficial. I am quite sure that doing so will also help you understand new mechanics like Mutation lot better.

Like all parts of the game, the endgame has also been revamped in Palworld 1.0. Sanctuaries have been revamped, and we have a new location to explore. If you create a new save, you’ll once again need to clear the earlier parts to access the new additions (namely the locations, resources, and Pals that are found on the Sunreach Island).

If you don’t want to go through the full grind once more, it’s best to continue on your old save. You might have to learn some new concepts on your own (unlike the game teaching you from scratch), but you’ll have immediate access to all the content.

I have decided to continue with my old save, given how much I have already completed. If you’re someone entirely new to Palworld or you have played only few hours in the past, starting a new save is the recommended way.

Here’s a rundown on all major changes before you make your decision.
