New Resident Evil game revealed in latest OXM

The May 2011 issue of Official Xbox Magazine will feature a new Resident Evil game as its cover story, titled Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, according to Stickskills. Supposedly, this is the long-rumored game by ex-SOCOM developer Slant Six.

RE:ORC will be set in 1998, taking you back to the original outbreak that defined the events in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. You’ll be playing as four members of the Umbrella Security Services squad (inspired by RE2 hidden character Hunk) who are destroying all evidence of this outbreak in a team-based shooter. That includes killing both real zombies — who can detect you through sight, sound, and smell — and survivors!

From the looks of it, RE:ORC will be as much about direct combat as it will be about manipulating “Umbrella-created horrors” and other opposition in fights between themselves. What is sure to raise some fans’ eyebrows is that you’ll also be able to “change the history of Resident Evil,” potentially meeting and killing key RE universe characters and destroying canon. Another quote from OXM that may bother some: “It’s not fair to give people big guns, then take all the ammo away.”

RE:ORC is slated for a Winter 2011 release on Xbox 360 and PS3, and check out Stickskills for an extensive list of bullet points fromt he OXM cover story.
