New Rally X hits Live Arcade, everyone finding it hard to care

It’s finally here — the game you’ve all been waiting for.

The Namco arcade title, New Rally X has finally made its way to the Xbox Live Arcade at 400 points. This sequel to Rally X features improved graphics and easier, tweaked game play. But not even that can save Rally X, because this game is the pits.

The game runs off of the original Pac-Man hardware, and is essentially Pac-Car with flags instead of pellets, and red car sprites instead of ghosts. What separates New Rally X from Pac-Man, though, is the ability to release a smoke screen to stun those nasty red cars. Pac-Man eats pellets and rips ghosts to shred by eating them; you get to “stun” cars in New Rally X. You see where I’m going here.

Just two days ago, Nintendo dropped the classic Super Mario Bros. on their Virtual Console. To this day, Super Mario Bros. remains not only playable, but enjoyable. It hold its own with some of the best games in history. New Rally X, on the other hand, makes me want to toss babies.

I know there are better Live Arcade games than this in the pipeline, so let’s get the ball rolling already Microsoft. Even Sony, who can’t seem to do anything right lately, is inching in on your territory by releasing more affordable and more solid titles. Hell, they even released an extremely playable (which was also beautiful and free) tech demo that has Summa drooling all over himself like a little baby. You’ve got a killer head start and you’re dropping the ball here.

Make Daddy proud. Castle Crashers. Next week. Make it happen.
