I’m hoping our secret friends that passed along the PSPgo specs awhile back will come back around to tell us more about the PSP2. You have my email address!
Until then, we’re keeping our ears close to the ground for new details on Sony’s rumored new portable. Around Tokyo Game Show plenty of rumors floated up to the top, which had me hoping we’d see it or at least hear about it. But nada. The biggest thing to come out of that was a rumor that the back of the device would feature some kind of touch panel. Reach-around gaming!
Kotaku says that they’ve heard that the screen is a bit larger than the PSP’s screen, and is being touted as “HD.” The same source says that Sony is having problems with battery power and overheating, and that they’re working hard to get a finalized version. The source also says that we should expect a Fall 2011 release date for the PSP2. This would point to a showing at E3 2010, or at least TGS 2010.
I have high hopes for the PSP2. The current PSP is my favorite game system, but I know that they need to fix a lot of things (and ditch the PSPgo) to make a portable that will stand up to the 3DS and Apple’s various platforms. You better bring it, Sony.
