Spike TV honcho Geoff Keighley has revealed yet another world premiere for the Spike Video Game Awards — Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
We had previously reported that Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner had trademarked the title, along with a Ubisoft character modeler directly referencing work on a new game in the series. Our own sources had confirmed this title has been in development at Ubisoft Montreal, and would continue “The Sands of Time” trillogy in some manner.
In a press release today, Ubisoft has stated the title will “many of the fan-favorite elements” and “new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand.” Whatever that means. The game is set to release in May of 2010, likely alongside with the film.
We’ll know (and see) more when the game is officially unveiled when the Spike VGAs air on December 12.
