New Fossil Echo trailer shows off its Oddworld influence

Shadow of the Colossus influence still apparent

Recommended Videos

When we first saw Fossil Echo earlier this year, all we really had to go on was its sharp cartoon art style and a list of influences: Shadow of the Colossus, Studio Ghibli films, and Oddworld. Some of those influences were apparent; the main character design looks like a direct homage to Wander from Shadow of the Colossus, and the eerie environments do evoke Miyazaki in a way. The Oddworld influence was not as easy to spot, but it is more apparent now.

On his way to climb the tower, the boy at the center of the story employs platforming and stealth in two dimensions, not unlike Abe from the first two Oddworld titles. No word yet if there will be a fart button.

Now that the team has some gameplay to show, Fossil Echo is up on Steam Greenlight, with hopes to release some time in 2015.
