New Balance Board horror game coming from Marvelous

One of the things that’s mystified me about the whole Kinect-craze is that for the most part, the Kinect games on the market right now aren’t doing anything that can’t already be done on the Wii Balance Board. Only through the work of hackers have I seen the really interesting things that Kinect can do. Most of the retail games for the thing so far don’t do anything different than mini-games in Wii Fit Plus, except with better depth perception, but worse lag.

Thing is, 3rd parties never really supported the Balance Board, not like they’ve supported Kinect so far. That’s the number one reason to buy it a Kinect over the Balance Board — people are actually making games for it.

That’s why I’m so shocked about this announcement from Marvelous. For whatever reason, they’ve decided to make a Balance Board game now, years after the hype around the device has cooled. Not much is known about the game at the moment, but it’s coming out in Japan pretty soon (March 24th), and it’s called Ikenie no Yoru. According to my shabby Japanese, that roughly translates to Night Sacrifice, but I could be wrong about that.

Marvelous has yet to let me down when it comes to Wii development, so I’m feeling pretty optimistic about this one. I’m scouring the Internet for scans as we speak for scans of the game. Stay tuned!
