Famitsu has a smattering of new screens for the PlayStation 3’s upcoming “lions, tigers and bears, oh my!” safari title Afrika. The screens show off the tremendous rendering power of the PS3 — each of those animals looks good enough to hunt to extinction for their precious bones and furs — yet how exactly this whole thing is going to play remains a mystery.
Unfortunately, Sony’s past history with media from games that could just as easily have been used as a tech demo generally indicated that the game is, in fact, a tech demo. Remember that cute rubber ducky? We were all pulling for a gripping tale of the fall of apartheid in a land rife with conflict between downtrodden natives and long-standing colonial oppressors, but when it came time to drop some sweet gaming action in our laps, the result wasn’t exactly Kojima-esque.
Sony, if you’re listening to this puh-leaze make this title worthwhile, even if that means a constant loop of Toto, lions that transform into jets and crocodiles that transform into EVEN LARGER CROCODILES! I realize that might deviate a bit from your artistic vision, but until you cats start cutting off ears you’re still a capitalist entity! Remember that!
… EVEN LARGER CROCODILES!
