What need for the shepherd..?

Fans of the anime adaptation of Konami’s legendary video game series Castlevania will be pleased to hear that the third season is exactly one month away, and will hit streaming service Netflix on March 3.

The first season – written by Warren Ellis, no less – ran a mere four episodes but impressed audiences with its tale of down-and-out monster hunter Trevor Belmont and a surprisingly sympathetic Dracula, whose paths become intertwined within a besieged Eastern European village. The success of the first season led to a larger, eight-episode run in 2018, which expanded the cast to feature other popular characters from the Castlevania universe.

The third season has been bolstered further, and will feature 10 episodes. Netflix promises fans “more mystery, murder, mayhem and vampires than ever,” which is a delightfully generic description. But hopefully Castlevania will continue its legacy of an animated adaptation that succeeds in living up to its source material’s Gothic style and grim-but-romantic lore.

Castlevania Season 3 arrives on Netflix March 3.
