I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading and writing about 5th Cell’s adorable Scribblenauts, an upcoming puzzle/platformer that’s been making a stir since this year’s E3, and the epic NeoGAF thread it spawned. While NeoGAF tends to be a pit of despair, from time to time its users create things that are truly great: Mama Robotnik’s re-imagining of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and “The GAF Collection” spring to mind.

The now famous “Post 217” of NeoGAF’s Scribblenauts thread has really opened the floodgates, and GAF users Turk128 and SpacePirate Ridley have taken it upon themselves to re-create some of gamings less scribble-y characters in the game’s distinctive, paperdoll style. What began as a thought experiment (“Too bad copyrighted characters aren’t in the game; who would you include?”) quickly turned into a really nice fanart project. There’s everyone from MadWorld‘s Jack to the Left 4 Dead crew; Geno (Super Mario RPG), Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes), and Manny (Grim Fandango) grace the top of this article.

The Scibblenautification begins about half-way through the 62-page thread, and it seems like some artists are taking requests. By the time you guys read this there will probably be even more. If this is any indication, it seems like 5th Cell has a hit on their hands.

And, just to hype this game a little bit more, you can have Maxwell in Spore and in Death Note.

Edit: Dtoid contributor Adam Dork (<3) just informed me that there’s another thread with all sorts of Scribblenauts-related art. It’s too much to keep up with, so I’ll just direct you on over to NeoGAF. Check it out and let me know which ones are your favorites in the comments.
