Electronic Arts has come out and confirmed yesterday’s leak, a brand new racer called Need for Speed The Run, slated for a fall release.

The EA Black Box-developed racer will be powered by DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine, the same tech used for the gorgeous Battlefield 3. The game will have players racing across the United States, from New York to San Francisco, as they participate in high-speed, illegal racing. EA’s promising a “gripping storyline,” as well, although it’s not going into details just yet.

The Run will also support Autlog, the social functionality that made its debut with last year’s awesome Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

It’s set for a November 15 release in North America (the 17th in Europe), and is scheduled to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and the Nintendo 3DS. We should have more soon as we head towards E3 in June.
