NCAA 09 Shipping with a tragic glitch

Booting up NCAA, grabbing your favorite team, and then utilizing “QB No. 5” has a tendency to break the college football experience. EA understands that. NCAA Football 09 will be the first time players will be allowed to create their own rosters and upload them through the game’s network to share with others. This new option makes it much easier for players to get rosters since it forgoes going onto a website and jacking in a memory card or some other peripheral. Unfortunately, the new NCAA offering appears to have a crucial flaw. Editing imported rosters can corrupt depth charts, team rankings, or even delete teams entirely.

Kotaku recently had a conversation with EA about the glitch. EA is assuring that they are working fervently to repair the problem, although there has yet to be a mention of a specific date for a patch. Our take from it is that players should not even bother with the feature for the time being. While only people that have edited user uploaded rosters have experienced the glitch, it is probably safe to assume that the entire roster system may be subject to at least some sort of residual issue.

Personally, I think this is a massive oversight on EA’s part. The company fully knows that the first thing that most NCAA Football players do is find a roster that has all the names, rankings, and profiles for the current year. Yet, while it’s a big “whoops” moment, we have a feeling it will get sorted out very soon. For now, though, Mr. McFadden should probably stay “RB No. 5.”
