Well, it finally happened. Naughty Dog gave an update on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and it seems like the game may actually still be released someday.
Yesterday, the studio behind The Last of Us and Uncharted posted actual substantial news about its upcoming sci-fi adventure, of which there has been very little since it debuted at The Game Awards almost two years ago: the game’s “very ambitious” cinematic shoot has wrapped up. Yay!
Naughty Dog posted an image of actress Tati Gabrielle, who plays the game’s main character Jordan A. Mun, holding a fun-looking pistol in a mo-cap suit. And believe it or not, this does constitute as news for the game since it’s been missing in action for quite some time.
“This cast killed it!” the studio teased. “Cannot wait to show you their incredible work when the time is right!”
Does this mean the game is close to completion? Maybe not, but it’s something. And we’ve all been waiting to see more since the game was revealed in December 2024, so even if this is all we get, it’s an update that’s been long in the making.
Coincidentally (or maybe not?), the new update comes just a few days before a new PlayStation State of Play event, which is due to go live on Thursday morning, Sept. 3 at 8am CT. It’s real easy to get your hopes up that it may appear then, and I think it easily could, since the game seems fit for a potential 2027 release date.
If you ask me, now’s a good a time as any to drop a new trailer, gameplay, or anything to reveal a launch window and get players excited again for the studio’s first new game in the PS5 generation (seriously). But no one at Sony or the studio asked me, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s what.
Despite the fumbling of this whole generation by Sony, Naughty Dog is still a widely respected developer, and Intergalactic has my full interest, mainly out of intrigue at this point. It would be great to see something soon, but I’m also not going to get my hopes up too much, especially considering Sony has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be the focal point at this particular State of Play.
Maybe The Game Awards again, then? Oh, who the hell knows.
