Atlus has announced that they will be publishing My World, My Way for the DS. If you can’t tell by the above trailer, it’s an RPG which is obviously being marketed towards girls. Without getting into the whole, “girls play the same games guys do” argument, I think that’s totally cool that they’re bringing out something that’s aimed at the demographic without it being a Petz or Barbie title.
What’s grating my nerves about all of this is the content of the game. The story revolves around a spoiled princess who casts off her tiara in exchange for armor to win the affections of an adventurer with whom she is smitten. The game has mechanics which reward the player for being selfish, allowing them to pout more effectively and get whatever their heart desires.
I’d hope that there’s some kind of turning point for the character late in the game or that she’s punished comically for such behavior over time, but I can’t help but think that this is a really bad idea. Thank God it’s Atlus and, therefore, under the radar of a lot of people or there would no doubt be some outcry over this. Odds are that its February release won’t even be noticed.

About My World, My Way
Elise is a beautiful princess who has been given everything she’s ever wanted. Upon turning 15, she realizes there’s only one thing in the world she lacks – a handsome boyfriend. She sets out to remedy this by asking her father to hold a ball in her honor, to which every prince from every kingdom is invited to come and try their hand at wooing her. However, only one young man catches Elise’s eye, and, as it turns out, he is no prince, but an adventurer. Knowing that fate itself has ordained him as her true love, she confesses her desire to share in his exciting life… Only to be flat out rejected.
