My God, how is Mario Odyssey nearly the same size as a Switch NBA 2K18 save file?

Optimization my good man

NBA games and the Switch don’t seem to mix.

After seeing that NBA Playgrounds, a poorly optimized and mediocre looking game took up more space on the Switch than a lot of other AAA titles, more than a few eyebrows were raised. It seems to be the same case for NBA 2K18, albeit with a much better visual style, as 5GB is required for save data, much less the main game. Knowing that Mario Odyssey as a whole just takes up 5.7GB all in, it makes this figure even more absurd. What kills me about NBA 2K18 is that you need to store that massive file on the system memory.

Outside developers still seem to struggle with the Switch, and I hope Nintendo extends a hand. It would be better for the long term good of the system if they weren’t forcing users to download multiple gigs of data after putting an SD card in, and studios weren’t noodling around with huge file sizes for small games.

Optimization isn’t a magic bullet that can turn a massive game like Doom into 2GB, but any sort of guidance from Nintendo will help.
