Moonlighting as a Hero quest walkthrough in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Hercules and Phil have arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and if you’re eager to meet them, you’ll have to get started by tackling the Moonlighting as a Hero quest. This is the very first mission they’ve got for you, which makes it a crucial one for starting the character unlock process.

Since this is the first mission that takes place in the Hercules Realm, it can be an especially tricky one to navigate, as you’re in new and unfamiliar territory. If any part of this mission is giving you trouble, here’s a complete walkthrough for the Moonlighting as a Hero quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete Moonlighting as a Hero in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Explore the Hercules Realm

As soon as you enter the Hercules Realm, you’ll get a cutscene of Phil running by. Your first step is to start exploring the Hercules Realm to locate and meet him. From where you spawn, head straight, then make a right just before you reach the waterfall. Walk down the path to locate Phil and chat with him.

Investigate the dark thorns and strange fog leading to the dark woods

Phil needs a hero’s help, and luckily for him, you’re just the hero for the job. His first task for you is to investigate the dark thorns and strange fog leading to the dark woods. Approach the dark thorns right next to where you just chatted with him and press the button that pops up next to the word “Investigate” to see if you can learn more about them.

Interacting with these thorns reveals a helpful hint that reads, “If you need help from the moonlight, a gift to the gods will brighten the night.” Finding this clue then automatically progresses you to the next step in this quest.

Return to Phil

Now that you’ve found a useful hint, you need to meet back up with Phil to share what you learned. Head over to the Artemis Pedestal in the center of the clearing, right in front of the grand waterfall, to find and chat with him.

Fish out the Moon Headband from the pool of water

Lucky for you, Phil knows just how to get the moonlight that the riddle says you need to find a way through the dark fog. Equip your Royal Fishing Rod and approach the pool of water right behind Phil, under the large waterfall. Toss the line into the sparkling ripple spot to catch a Moon Headband.

Then, interact with the Artemis Pedestal next to Phil to place it. Talk to Phil once you’ve got the Moon Headband back where it belongs to figure out what needs to be done next.

Gather some offerings in the clearing

You’re on the right track now, but Artemis requires a few more offerings before she’ll lend the help you need. Phil suggests you find some additional items for her around the nearby area. Since she’s the goddess of wilderness, you decide to search in nature. There are three tasks you have to get done here:

• Dig up three piles of Greek Clay.
  • For this step, equip your Royal Shovel and look around the nearby area for sparkling mud spots. Use your shovel on each one to recover a piece of Greek Clay. The spawn spots for this item may vary for everyone, but for me, all three spots were close to the pool of water at the bottom of the waterfall.
• Pick three Greek Flowers.
  • For this step, search around to find a bundle of three flowers. Each of these flowers is a bundle of three that includes Crimson, Teal, and Fuchsia Eternal Poppies. The spawn location for them may vary, too, but for me they were tucked away in a corner underneath a tree on the left side of the waterfall, next to the large stone pedestal close to the Realm entrance, and to the left of the spot where you first met Phil.
• Gather three Sylvan Wood.
  • For this step, you need to use your Royal Shovel to dig up tree stumps around the area. I found two in the woods to the left of the waterfall, and one tucked away in a corner near the massive stone podium close to the Realm entrance.

Place the natural element offerings on the Artemis Pedestal

Once you’ve got three of each item, head back to the Artemis Pedestal by Phil. Interact with it to place the natural element offerings you gathered. The Moon Headband will start to glow right after, allowing you to pick it up and put it on to help clear away those pesky dark thorns blocking your path.

Make your way with Phil towards the Arena to train your new ability

With the helpful Moon Headband equipped, head to the left of the waterfall to follow Phil over to the Arena’s entrance. Interact with the dark thorns blocking your path just like you do when clearing away Night Thorns in the valley to find a way forward. Once you make it to the Arena, chat with Phil to discuss next steps.

Start the Obstacle Course

Phil isn’t comfortable having you work on some hero feats to find Hercules until you’ve proven you’ve got what it takes, so he tasks you with running an Obstacle Course he set up. Your next mission is to get through this course within two minutes. Interact with the yellow banner behind Phil to start your run. Activate the Moonlight Beacons to clear up the fog in the dark woods

After completing the course, follow Phil back to the Artemis Pedestal near where you first met him. Once there, clear away the thorns blocking your path and activate the Moonlight Beacon to reveal the path forward. Continue deeper into the woods, stopping as necessary to remove more thorns or trigger additional Moonlight Beacons.

Talk to Hercules

Upon making it through the dark fog, a cutscene will trigger, finally revealing Hercules. He seems to be in quite a bit of trouble, so head over to him and chat to see what’s going on. As soon as you chat with Hercules, the Moonlighting as a Hero quest will end, and the Speedrun Crash Course mission will begin, getting you one step closer to unlocking Hercules and Phil.
